Jiah Sin – Professional Background

she/her/hers

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master of Arts in Art Therapy from Concordia University. My background includes extensive work in community mental health, where I supported children, youth, and their parents/caregivers in a variety of settings. I’ve worked in a child psychiatry unit, intensive treatment programs, school environments, and community agencies. These experiences shaped my ability to see clients through multiple lenses and support people with diverse cultural backgrounds and emotional needs.

I’ve trained in synergetic play therapy, art therapy, trauma-informed, mindfulness-based, and CBT-informed practices. Watching clients take meaningful steps toward change continues to be one of the most inspiring parts of my work.

Specialization and Focus

I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and young adults ages 3 to 25, as well as their parents and caregivers. My areas of focus include:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Low self-esteem and identity development

  • Social and peer challenges

  • Trauma and attachment concerns

  • Parent–child relationship struggles

  • Emotional dysregulation

  • Unhelpful or repetitive coping patterns

I also work closely with neurodivergent children and youth. Using a strengths-based approach, I support clients in building emotional regulation, healthy self-expression, social communication, and confidence.

Therapeutic Approach

I believe therapy should begin in a warm, welcoming space where clients can explore their experiences at a pace that feels right for them. My approach is integrative and draws from client-centered, systemic, and evidence-based models.

I incorporate:

  • Synergetic Play Therapy to support nervous system regulation

  • Art therapy to explore and express complex emotions

  • Mindfulness-based practices to build body awareness and emotional insight

  • CBT-informed approaches to shift unhelpful thought patterns and build practical coping skills

Because support systems matter, I collaborate with parents/caregivers, schools, and other providers when appropriate. For younger clients, I actively involve parents and caregivers to help reinforce progress outside the therapy room.

When I’m not doing therapy…

I enjoy kayaking on calm water, exploring the city and nature with my family, and painting or drawing while listening to music.
