Sequoia Troy, B.A., Clinical Intern

Sequoia Troy- Professional Background

she/her

I am a Marriage and Family Therapy graduate student at Northwestern University, working toward licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

My work focuses on teens, young adults, and adults who feel anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of themselves.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. In addition, I am an active member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Before graduate school, I spent several years supporting children and families with communication, emotional regulation, and social skills. Through that work, I learned how stress, relationships, behavior, and emotional needs are often connected.

My clinical focus includes anxiety, identity development, life transitions, school or work stress, family expectations, neurodivergence, and relationship challenges.

Specialization and Focus

Many clients come to therapy because they are used to holding everything together on the outside while feeling overwhelmed on the inside.

You may be navigating school stress, college pressure, work stress, family expectations, relationship challenges, burnout, identity questions, or self-doubt.

I may be a good fit for clients looking for support with:

  • Anxiety and overwhelm
  • School, college, or work stress
  • Family expectations
  • Identity development
  • Neurodivergence and masking
  • Self-esteem
  • Relationship stress
  • Life transitions

In addition, I enjoy working with neurodivergent teens and adults. Some people grow up masking, feeling misunderstood, or trying to fit into spaces that were not built with their needs in mind.

Together, we may focus on self-acceptance, emotional regulation, self-trust, and tools that feel realistic for your life.

Culture, identity, and family experiences can also shape how we experience stress and relationships. For this reason, I support BIPOC teens and adults who want space to explore family dynamics, pressure, identity, and belonging.

You do not have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. We can begin wherever you are.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapy style is warm, steady, and collaborative.

Rather than rushing the process, I give clients space to open up when they are ready. We move at your pace while also working toward practical tools, emotional awareness, and a stronger sense of confidence.

Therapy with me is a place to slow down, make sense of your experiences, better understand your patterns, and build a stronger relationship with yourself.

When I’m not doing therapy…

I love spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, and exploring creative pursuits. I recharge by surrounding myself with the people I care about and staying socially connected.
