Lourdy Joseph – Professional Background

she/her/hers

Lourdy Joseph is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. As a proud Haitian American therapist, Lourdy values culture, identity, and the lived experiences that shape how children, teens, and adults see themselves and relate to others. She has worked in schools, community clinics, and volunteer settings, supporting individuals and families from many backgrounds. Her work is grounded in the belief that healing begins when people feel safe, understood, and respected.

Specialization and Focus

Lourdy specializes in working with children and teens and also supports young adults and adults. She helps clients navigate:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Emotional regulation and behavioral challenges

  • Stress and major life transitions

  • Identity exploration and cultural identity

  • Trauma and attachment-related concerns

  • Family and relationship dynamics

  • Self-esteem and confidence

She pays close attention to family systems, early experiences, and cultural context, helping clients and caregivers understand how these influences shape emotions and behavior.

Therapeutic Approach

Lourdy uses play therapy as a primary approach when working with children and teens, creating a safe, developmentally appropriate space for expression, processing, and healing. Through play, creativity, and relational connection, children are able to communicate feelings and experiences that may be difficult to put into words.

Her work is collaborative, compassionate, and guided by curiosity. She integrates play therapy with CBT, ACT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Person-Centered and Narrative approaches, Relational-Cultural Therapy, and mindfulness-based practices, tailoring treatment to each client’s age, needs, and goals.

She partners closely with caregivers, offering support and insight to strengthen relationships and promote growth both in and outside of sessions.

When I’m not doing therapy…

Outside of therapy, Lourdy enjoys running, listening to music, watching anime, and traveling whenever she gets the chance.
