Eddie Medina – Professional Background

he/him/his

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Washington, working with teens, adults, and couples across Renton, the Eastside, and greater Seattle, with telehealth available throughout Washington.

I specialize in helping people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in patterns they can’t break—especially with anxiety, trauma, and substance use.

A lot of the people I work with deal with overthinking, emotional ups and downs, or habits they’ve tried to change but can’t seem to shift. They’re often high-functioning on the outside but feel disconnected or exhausted on the inside.

My style is real, down-to-earth, and relational. I’m not here to talk at you or overanalyze you—I’m here to help you understand yourself, feel more grounded, and actually make changes that matter in your life.

As a Mexican-American therapist and a dad of five, I bring both cultural awareness and real-life experience into the room. You don’t have to filter yourself here.

Specialization and Focus

I work with teens (15+), adults, and couples who are navigating:

  • Anxiety and overthinking

  • Trauma and past experiences that still feel present

  • Substance use and patterns that are hard to break

  • Relationship stress and disconnection

A lot of my clients come in feeling stuck—repeating the same patterns, reacting in ways they don’t fully understand, or feeling like they’ve lost control over parts of their life.

In our work, we focus on building awareness, regulating emotions, and helping you respond differently instead of staying stuck in the same cycles.

With couples, I focus on communication, emotional safety, and helping both people feel heard without turning every conversation into a fight.

Therapeutic Approach

My approach blends practical tools with deeper work. Therapy shouldn’t feel one-size-fits-all.

I draw from:

  • CBT and DBT for emotional regulation and real-life tools

  • IFS (parts work) and EFT to understand internal patterns and relationship dynamics

  • Trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches to get to the root of things

  • Existential work to explore identity, meaning, and direction

A big part of our work may involve understanding the different “parts” of you—the anxious part, the avoidant part, the part that wants to change but feels stuck—so you can respond with more clarity instead of reacting automatically.

The goal is simple: help you feel more like yourself again.

When I’m not doing therapy…

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with my kids, listen to music, go to shows, and get out into nature when I can.

I like staying active, learning new things, and keeping life balanced. And I’m big on food—especially making a solid burrito at home.
